Unit 2 - Sketching

Part 1 - Getting Started

Homework Task:

Reflective Statement:

This project challenged me with the various techniques, such as how you hold the pen and how much pressure to use.

A skill I learend from this module is what each type of writing utensil looks like and will help me in the future when deciding which thicknesses of pen or pencil to use so that the sketch looks the way I want it to.

Part 2 - 2-Point Perspective

Introduction:

Dividing and Duplicating:

Irregular Shape:

Advanced Subdivision:

Reflective Statement:

This project challenged me with some of the different shapes. Sketchign a cube was simple but it got more complex when adding multiple shapes to create a building.

A skill I learned from this module is being able to generate 3D objects that are proportional without needing to measure them or guess, and will help me in the future when I need to sketch a building quickly while making sure it doesn't look askew and maintains proportions.

Part 3 - Entourage

Trees, Grass, and Ground Cover:

People:

Synthesis - Thumbnail Composition:

Reflective Statement:

This project challenged me by forcing me to pay attention to the proportions of the people and vegetation in relation to the building, making sure everything seems realistic in size and shading.

A skill I learned from this module is being able to size the foreground, middleground, and background to add depth to a 2D sketch and will benefit me in the future when sketching outdoor scenes for buildings.

Part 4 - Grid Technique

2D House Elevation:

2-Point Perspective:

Reflective Statement:

This project challenged me by forcing me to utilize more line thicknesses to properly show the depth of the building in the sketch.

A skill I learned from this module is being able reproduce a view of a building accurately and will be useful in the future when I want to recreate a building accurately and add my own details or changes without changing the structure of the original.
